Here are my top 5 favorite mascaras!

A few weeks ago a friend on Facebook posted about how disappointed she was with a mascara she had bought at a high-end beauty store. This got me thinking about how you don’t have to splurge on great mascara, while I do have some high end favorites, I also own a few drug store mascaras that I love just as much. Below you’ll find my top 5 favorite mascaras and reasons why I love each of them. Hopefully this helps you decide on one you might have thought about trying. If you have any questions feel free to leave them below.

1. NYX – The Skinny retails for $6.99

While this mascara is perfect for bottom lashes, I like to use it as a primer before I use the Carbon Black mascara from L’Oreal. The skinny brush makes getting the small lashes super easy, really defines the lashes, and doesn’t clump. You can’t go wrong with this one, the price is great and it works fantastically. I found mine at Ulta. I made sure to stock up, clients love this mascara!

2. L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black $7.99

I can’t even remember how long I’ve been using this mascara, this is my “holy grail” makeup product. I use this on myself as well as my clients. It’s an amazing mascara for such a steal. It’s easy to apply, it’s long lasting, yet it’s extremely easy to remove when you wash your face at night. I’ll try new mascaras sometimes and this is one I always fall back on. I need to have several back ups in case they discontinue it!

3. Too Faced Better Than Sex $23.00

I remember hearing about this mascara, and laughing about the name. This is one you’ll put on and receive so many compliments about. I wore it to a party one time and everyone couldn’t get over the way it made my lashes look, they thought for sure I was wearing false lashes! The only thing you have to be careful about is making sure you don’t apply too much because it tends to clump.

4. Diorshow Waterproof $25.00

I remember when I first started wearing this mascara. I was sitting at the lunch table in 9th grade with some girls who were seniors and they all used this mascara when they touched up their makeup at lunch. I thought they were so cool and their lashes always looked amazing! At 14 though, my parents weren’t going to let me buy a $25 mascara, so as soon as I saved up for it I went and purchased it. It’s not something I use all the time, I like to save it for special occasions. It lasts a long time, it doesn’t clump, but it does take some time to remove at night when you’re washing your face.

5. Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Extreme $35.00

Last but not least, I am sure you’re thinking $35 for a mascara?! Really though, to be 100% honest I am not a fan of false lashes, personally I find them to be uncomfortable. When I purchased this it was my first time using a fiber mascara, you apply the white tube first and then the gold tube. This gives me that false lash look without glue or tweezers near my eyes.

Summer Makeup Tips

Even though we are midway through July, I wanted to share some summer makeup tips with all of you. I figured this would still be a great topic to touch on especially with how hot it’s been. Below I am going to share my favorite products along with tips for making sure your makeup lasts all day!

I always recommend starting with a clean face, then applying sunscreen. If you’re looking for a sheer coverage foundation one of my favorite tips is to combine your primer (I highly suggest a silicone base primer) with your foundation. Lately I’ve been using a duo fiber brush to apply my foundation, but a lot of people also love the beauty blender or any beauty sponge you can find at Walgreens, Target etc.

Once your foundation is applied, you can move on to concealing. I like to go easy on these steps during the summer months. Apply your concealer under your eyes and set with a translucent powder. After that, take a cream bronzer and apply it to your forehead, cheek bones, nose, chin and neck. This will give you the perfect sunkissed glow! Check out the image below for a better idea of what I’m talking about.

Moving onto blush and highlighter….I personally find that cream blushes work better in the summer heat. Highlighter is my new obsession, I can’t live without the Becca Cosmetics Champagne Pop highlighter, it really gives your skin the most beautiful glow.

For brows, I suggest using a brow pencil and a brow setting gel. Eyeliner and mascara should be light and waterproof.

During the summer months stick with pinks and coral lipsticks or stains and top with a gloss.
